ITINERARY
Day One –
Sunday – Launceston, Hobart, Port Arthur
– L
After leaving Launceston,
drive via the Heritage Highway to the historic Midland towns of Ross (famous for its carved stone bridge) and Oatlands (with many fine colonial sandstone
buildings). Arrive in Hobart and drive to the top of Mt Wellington
(1270m) for spectacular views in all directions. After a short drive in the city, head to the Tasman Peninsula for more spectacular scenery
and views of Eaglehawk Neck from the lookout. Next, see nature’s wonders – the Blow Hole, Tasman Arch and Devil’s
Kitchen. Overnight Port Arthur
Day Two –
Monday – Port Arthur, East Coast, Bicheno – B/L
Visit Port Arthur Historical Site for a guided walking tour,leave the Tasman
Peninsula for the East Coast. Next is Swansea – a beautiful East Coast town. Stop for wine tasting before arriving at Freycinet National Park for a one hour return walk to view
famous Wineglass Bay
from the Wineglass Bay Lookout. The tour makes a brief stop at Freycinet Marine Farm to replace lost calories (optional!)
with a taste of freshly picked oysters and steamed mussels (own expense). Arrive in Bicheno to see the amazing Blow Hole.
An evening penguin tour is also available (own expense). Overnight Bicheno
Day Three – Tuesday – Bicheno, St
Helens, Launceston – B/L
Visit a multi-award
winning East Coast wildlife park before heading to St Helens to see Peron Sand Dunes with
their Sahara-like feel and great coastal views. See the granite-rock coastline of the Bay
of Fires and one of Tasmania’s best beaches
at Binalong Bay.
Drive toward Launceston via Scottsdale. On the way, see magnificent
St Columba Falls (90m), carved trees at Legerwood. Overnight in Launceston
Day Four – Wednesday – Launceston, Mole Creek, Cradle Mountain –B/
L
First, a short drive
through Launceston city on the way to Cataract Gorge, the jewel of Launceston. Leave Launceston and stop by Chudleigh Honey
Farm for honey tasting and a honey ice-cream (own expense). Next, visit Maracoopa
Cave near Mole Creek for a guided tour of limestone cave that is millions
of years old. Travel to the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair. Overnight Cradle Mountain
Day Five – Thursday – Cradle Mountain, Rosebery, Strahan –
B/L
Still in the Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair
National Park, see famous Dove Lake with Cradle Mountain at
the background. On the way to Strahan, see beautiful Lake Rosebery, enjoy Henty Sand Dunes and view the Southern Ocean (see
as far as you can imagine – perhaps Argentina?). Arrive in Strahan, considered one of the prettiest villages in Tasmania. Take an easy walk through rainforest to see samples
of Tasmania’s trees and Hogarth
Falls. Visit an award winning woodworks centre with beautifully designed
woodcraft on display. Sunset from Strahan looks fantastic! Overnight Strahan
Day Six –
Friday – Strahan, Queenstown, Hobart – B/L
Queenstown is an old
mining town reflecting of past glory and surrounded by mine-coloured mountains. After a visit to Queenstown, head towards
Hobart. En route, enjoy a short walk to beautiful Nelson Falls and turn at Derwent
Bridge to see Lake St Clair – Australia’s
deepest lake. Next stop is Mt Field National Park to view famous Russell Falls (regularly seen on Tasmanian calendars) and the Tall Trees before the tour concludes in Hobart with drop off at Hobart CBD accommodation or the airport. Complimentary
transfer to Launceston is available if required.
